Cherry Watermelon Jolly Rancher Soda or... Cherry Watermelon Granita

In case you  haven't noticed yet, my maturity level is a little closer to a tweens than a mature adults'.  I buy Lipsmackers on a regular basis and have chip sandwiches for lunch about 4 days a week.  Sometimes I watch One Tree Hill.  So after the Jolly Rancher cupcakes, the soda was pretty much inevitable.  If you are a mature adult you probably aren't even reading this because it sounded nasty.  It's not.  It's delicious.  Make it for your kids.  They will love you for it.

Cherry Watermelon Jolly Rancher Soda
-1 cup Cherry Jolly Rancher candies
-1 cup water

-Club soda, chilled
-Watermelon Jolly Rancher candies (one per glass)

Boil the cherry candies and water together until the candies have completely dissolved and made a syrup. Stir frequently. Don't let boil for too long or the syrup will over-concentrate.  (You can always remedy that by just adding a little more club soda to taste if you mess up.)

Allow to cool, stirring every few minutes.  Add one part syrup to two parts club soda.  Be sure to remeasure you syrup because it will have condensed while boiling.

Move to a tightly covered bottle or container to cool.  To serve, drop one watermelon candy in the bottom of each glass, fill with cherry soda, and enjoy!

Note: If you have any soda leftover, or if it goes flat before you can drink it all- feel free to make it into a granita.  Pour the leftover soda into an 8x8 baking dish, and use a fork to scrape the icy shards into the center about every hour or so until you reach a nice slushy consistency.  Serve immediately or keep in a covered container in the freezer.  This is my favorite!!
